The Greek yogurt pita appetizer is a fabulously flavorful skinny healthy food that is perfect to serve, but is also a filling snack. I am always looking for healthy foods that will keep you full as we talked about here, and this combines 2 of them.
Ever since I was a kid, I have always been a big fan of Greek food. I got attached to their yogurt early on, long before it became as popular as it is today, while eating all of those gyros. Greek yogurt is special because it is extra thick and has a different texture than regular yogurt, plus you can add your own flavor to it quite easily while keep it’s thickness.
I discovered the avocado many years later and was blown away of just how healthy they are which we learned about here. A protein like the avocado, that keeps you full and is smooth and delicious at the same time like Greek yogurt, why not combine them?
One day I found real Greek pita at the food store and it all came together for me. I looked at the nutrition information on the package and was impressed with the low fat, high protein content, so I bought them and created the simply made Greek yogurt pita appetizer.
Here is how I put it together. Preheat a nonstick fry pan with a little extra virgin olive oil and warm up each pita while trying to get a slight toasting. While the pitas are warming, micro plane 1/2 to 1 clove of garlic into a small container of plain Greek yogurt. Add some salt and pepper and stir together well. As each pita comes off the heat, use a large knife and cut it into 4 triangular pieces. Top each piece with some Greek yogurt and then add as much avocado as you would like. I sometimes top each pita with a little cilantro for additional healthy flavor. Another option is top the pita with 2 or 3 grilled shrimp which is another layer of healthy protein that tastes out of this world and could be considered dinner. I hope that you make the Greek yogurt pita appetizer tonight, you will love it.
