4 foods you should always buy

When you’re a kid you don’t realize just how true the saying “you are what you eat” is to your life, body and health until it matters most.  Whether you are trying to lose weight or just be more fit, being aware of what you are putting into your body each day is essential to your overall health.

I’ve talked about foods you should NEVER EVER put into your grocery cart here.  But now and more importantly let’s focus on what you should always be buying when food shopping each week.  Here are 4 foods you should always buy and include in your diet.

1. Avocados.  Not only are they delicious, avocados are considered to be a healthy fat.  They are not only the perfect protein compliment to a salad, avocados are high in fiber, folic acid, potassium and B-vitamins.

2. Broccoli and Cauliflower not only prevent cancer, they turn on cancer fighting genes…now that is some serious disease fighting foods.  Incorporate these vegetables into everything from omelettes, pastas and side dishes (check out my broccoli cauliflower bake here).

3. Eggs.  More specifically eggs from hens that are free range and eat a natural vegetarian diet are so good for you and should be a very big part of your everyday diet.  One egg is not only a healthy protein, it also contains 9 essential amino acids, B12 and choline (supportive for brain and heart health).  I eat eggs everyday.  Having boiled eggs in the frig is an easy way to eat healthy and stay full.  Learn how to boil the perfect egg here.

4. Turmeric is a SERIOUS superfood!  My husband just introduced me to this very special spice that can increase lifespan and fight cancer.  Turmeric also contains antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties that keep you healthy.  Buy some this week at the grocery store and add it to your recipes.
