I can’t say enough about avocados because I love the way they taste, their texture and beauty. But on top of all of those qualities, this very special fruit, a berry to be exact, is considered to be the best food in the world because of their health benefits. Who could ask for more from one food? Here are 5 more reasons why you should be eating avocados.
Avocados keep your heart healthy. I know what you’re thinking! Aren’t avocados fattening? Yes, they are, but in the good way as they are full of healthy mono-unsaturated; which is good for your heart. Avocados reduce bad cholesterol levels in your blood so they lower your risk for heart disease and stroke. Mono-saturated fats also contain vitamin E, an antioxidant that plays a role in keeping you healthy.
Avocados are full of fiber. A medium-sized avocado contains 10 grams of fiber and 3/4 of that is insoluble so it speeds up digestion while the other 1/4 is keeping you full. Spread some on a whole grain piece of toast and you’re really talking; a delicious, satisfying meal!
Avocados help the body absorb nutrients from other foods you’re eating. The mono-saturated fat in avocados enable your system to absorb fat-soluble nutrients. If you have avocado in a salad, your body will better absorb the other ingredients in that meal. The avocado alone has over 20 nutrients in itself.
Avocados can regulate blood pressure. Both magnesium and potassium are found in avocados more than most other fruits, and both have been shown to help reduce blood pressure.
