Vitamin D is essential to the immune system, bone health and preventing a number of serious health conditions including cancer, diabetes and multiple sclerosis. With that being said, I’ve pulled together 5 warning signs of Vitamin D deficiency that you should be aware of. Be sure to discuss any symptoms you might be experiencing with your doctor so that a blood test can be ordered and supplementation can be prescribed.
Feelings of sadness and depression.
Low levels of Vitamin D have been connected to feelings of sadness and depression with symptoms of sleep issues, food cravings and feeling tired all of the time. Once supplemented with the proper levels of Vitamin D3 the symptoms diminished.
Feeling of pain and muscle weakness.
Because Vitamin D enhances muscle contraction; which is essential for strengthening bones, a deficiency can cause slight to severe pain over time, in addition to weakening of the muscles.
Low levels of Vitamin D has been connected to excessive sweating especially around the forehead, although the medical community has not quite figured out why this occurs.
Impaired immune system.
When the body is deprived of the proper levels of Vitamin D, the immune cells are affected, therefore causing a greater possibility of coming down with the flu. In addition, those who have been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease were also found to have insufficient levels of Vitamin D.
High blood pressure.
When Vitamin D levels are low, high blood pressure often occurs because it’s needed to normalize levels. So if your blood pressure has increased be sure to ask your doctor for a blood test to see if Vitamin D is playing a role.
