Yoga in itself is a form of meditation through the process of focus and breath, but intentionally incorporating it in a deeper way can dramatically enhance your yoga practice and your life overall. Both yoga and meditation have a direct affect on your mind and body; how they feel most importantly, but also how you look. Practicing a few times each week will not only strengthen your mind and body, but help you look and feel more rested and peaceful. Here are 3 ways meditation enhances your yoga practice and your life.
Meditation improve focus.
Yoga in itself if a meditative form of exercise, but consciously including meditation will not only improve your focus during your practice, but also long after you’ve stepped away from your mat. Pairing meditation and yoga has been known to improve comprehension, mental focus and concentration. Actually, many students utilize both practices to improve study habits, in addition to any other tasks that require intense focus.
Meditation relieve stress.
Meditation comes in many forms and doesn’t have to be about sitting by yourself in a closed off room while chanting. Just like yoga, meditating can be what is best for you. Long, deep, slow breathing in and outside of yoga is a form of meditation and has been shown to aid in relaxation while reducing the production of adrenaline. With that being said, the body better combats stress and nerves while improving your yoga practice dramatically.
Meditation reduces depression and anxiety.
Both yoga and meditation have a biochemical effect on your body that shares a resemblance to taking an antidepressant or anti-anxiety medication. Practicing yoga and meditating at the same time decreases the productions of dopamine, which gives an overall feeling of calm and well-being. Taking a moment for youself at the start of each day, with even just 15 minutes of yoga and meditation, will help to create a positive state of mind.
It is well known that exercise of any kind, even something as simple as taking a walk around the block, reduces stress hormones and increases endorphins, which results in overall mental wellness. Yoga and meditation together can enhance your life to a level of happiness you have only dreamed about, so consider making both a part of your lifestyle today.
