Dr. Drew Ramsey, an assistant clinical professor of psychiatry at Columbia University, shared his findings at this years American Psychiatric Association Annual Meeting. He spoke of his ongoing research into “brain food scale” noting, “The data are very clear that there’s a powerful prevention signal when we help our patients eat better.”
Dr. Ramsey’s belief is that many people are not consuming enough essential nutrients that positively affect the brain to fight and prevent depression in the first place. Through his scientific literature research, evidence shows these nutrients are omega 3-fatty acids, magnesium, calcium, fiber and vitamins B1, B9, B12, D and E.
So what are the best foods you should be eating that contain these brain-boosting nutrients? By far, seafoods score very high on the “happy food” scale, especially bivalves such as oysters, clams and mussels.
