8 Bad Habits That Make You Age Faster

Getting older is inevitable and thanking we are all lucky enough to be here today. But as the years pass, if you want to feel and look younger than you are, there are some things you control to fight the aging process. Here are 8 bad habits that make you age faster.

Being a couch potato.

As we age, we have to keep active because lack of movement can actually take years off of our lives. Even the simplest forms of exercise a few days a week will keep your your cholesterol down and help to fight off type 2 diabetes. Two of my favorite ways to move are walking and doing the best yoga DVDS for all levels.

Smoking.

This one is quite obvious I know, but it must said because smoking is one of the most hazardous bad habits to your health. Not only does it increase the chance of numerous cancers, it sucks the energy right out of you. In addition, smoking, of any kind, accelerates skin aging and will make you look decades older than you really are. Secondhand smoke is also dangerous, know your health risks.

Holding onto grudges.

Who would have thought that what you’re thinking about or holding onto can age you faster? But it’s true. Not letting go of the past and the anger you may still be holding onto to, can have a direct affect on your body by increasing the hormone cortisol; which contributes to weight gain, increased blood pressure and the risk of diabetes.

Staying up late.

Quite simply, lack of sleep makes you look older. “Getting your beauty sleep” is a actually a real thing. Not getting at least 7-8 hours of sleep each night causes bags under the eyes and droopy skin; which makes us look older and has a direct affect on our overall health. Learn the 8 life changing benefits of a good night’s sleep.

Eating sugar.

Did you know that eating sugar accelerates aging in every part of your body? Not only will your waistline be affected, but this bad habit will also increase your risk of developing diabetes and will cause unwanted skin issues like acne and wrinkles. If you must have something sweet, go with a piece of dark chocolate.

Drinking alcohol.

Although a moderate amount of alcohol does have healthy heart benefits, anything more than two drinks per day for men and one for women can shorten your life by increasing the risk for heart failure, high blood pressure and liver failure. Alcohol also causes weight gain and ages the skin.

Sleeping on your stomach.

If you sleep with your face smashed into a pillow every night, over time those creases and lines you wake up to will become permanent. As collagen breaks down within the skin, we become more susceptible to consistent friction and trauma. Instead, try to sleep on your back and use a satin pillowcase versus cotton.

Lack of water.

I hear this so often, water is boring, so although I know that I should, I don’t drink it. The fact is, water is absolutely essential to maintaining healthy skin and proper body functions. Staying hydrated helps the skin cells rejuvenate faster versus the nasty affects caused by lack of water like dryness, flakiness and wrinkles. Learn how much water you should be drinking everyday.
