Why I stopped using conventional deodorant

Every December I get my mammogram and strive to live a healthy lifestyle everyday through careful food choices and moving my body as often as I can. I research, watch the news and stay up to date on everything healthy. But I never really thought that much about the products that I was applying to my skin and how they could also affect my health. This is especially true of the deodorant that I choose to use, until I dug a little deeper. Here’s why I stopped using conventional deodorant.

With so many women being affected by breast cancer, I started to wonder if the reports linking deodorant to the disease were true. Well, it turns out that most conventional deodorants contain aluminum, which is a neurotoxin and is not good for our health in any capacity, but most especially applied within the tender under arm area. I’ve also learned that in addition to the link between breast cancer and aluminum, there are also other health issues this toxin can pose like impaired mental and motor function, Alzheimer’s and other brain and bone diseases. Who knew?

After learning everything that I could about aluminum, I took a look at the ingredient list on the back of my deodorant and there it was, right at the top, nearly 20% of it was a toxic chemical; which made my stomach turn. More than fifty percent of breast cancers start in the upper outer quadrant sitting right next to the underarm area and I believe there has to be a connection with this toxin. Think about it, most women shave the under their arms everyday, then apply aluminum deodorants to that broken skin; which is probably one of the worst things that we can do.

The fact that there isn’t more concern over these unhealthy deodorants is confusing to me, especially with so many women getting breast cancer. But I’ve learned the reason is because it takes millions of dollars and years of research to prove a direct link to cancer. And although the National Cancer Institute says,”more research is needed”, I will not wait for that defining moment to happen, by then it could be too late.

We wouldn’t swallow a spoonful of toxic chemicals, but for some reason we have thought it to be ok to smear them under our arms, when actually it worse than eating them. When we eat something our digestive system breaks it down, but when we apply toxins to our skin they aren’t metabolized and can enter our bloodstream and blood tests have proven this, especially the aluminum in deodorants.

So what are we to do? Ditch all of your conventional deodorants and only use natural aluminum-free. Finding the best aluminum free deodorant that works was my new health mission and I found it! Native has knocked my socks off.
