As long as I can remember, I’ve struggled with body image, as many women do. I saw every single flaw (or what I believed to be flaws) with my body and kind of obsessed over them. Sometimes I would exercise too much or not eat anything that contained even a gram of fat, all while trying to change how my body was shaped. It was very sad, because at that time, I was just skinny, literally, and there’s nothing attractive about that.
At my lowest point, I was 113 pounds standing at 5 foot 8 inches tall with no muscle tone or shape, I truly was just a skinny girl. It wasn’t until my early 20’s, when my boyfriend (and now husband) had a serious conversation with me. He assured me that I was loved and beautiful no matter what, but he also opened up my eyes to what others actually saw at that time, but what I was unable to see. I made the decision that day to stop the insanity, to live a life of balance with food and exercise rather than constantly battling and obsessing.
I now call myself a former “Skinny Girl” who has found the way to live a “Healthy” happy life and I’ve never felt more confident in how I look, but more importantly I’ve never been happier. Now, I practice every form of exercise in moderation, 20-30 minutes a day at the most and have even introduced yoga into my life. The practice has truly taught me how much our minds play a role in how we feel about ourselves each day.
After countless years of being asked advice about what exercises I do, what kind of foods I eat and how I manage to stay so happy and positive, I decided to put it all in one place and appropriately call it Skinny Healthy Girl. As a former skinny girl who’s now striving to be healthy in every way possible, I’ve created this down to earth, interactive space where we all can share, inspire and empower each other to better health and well-being.
Health & wellness are my passions and with over 28 years of exercise under my belt, I’m sharing the best workouts that I love with all of you. I also LOVE food (who doesn’t?), I love to eat and I LOVE to cook. So in addition to sharing all of my workout methods, I’ll also be posting the foods that I eat, recipes I’ve created and the latest food news so that you’ll always be up to date. On top of all of that, wellness is also an important an essential component to living a healthy lifestyle, so we’ll delve into learning all about how to have and maintain healthy relationships with ourselves and others.
I am passionate in my belief that women can conquer all, but a strong woman in mind and body can take over the world. Believing in yourself is the first step to success in anything that you do.
