As long as I can remember, starting in high school, all through college and into my young adult years, I struggled with body image, as many women do. I saw every single flaw (or what I believed to be flaws) on my body and wanted to fix them at whatever cost. I would either exercise too much or not eat enough as I attempted to change what I believed was wrong with my body.
At one sad point in my life I was 113 pounds standing at 5 foot 8 inches tall with no muscle tone or shape, I truly was just a skinny girl. In my early 20’s, my boyfriend (and now husband) had a serious conversation with me about how I looked. He opened up my eyes to what others actually saw and what I was unable to see. I made the decision that day to stop the insanity, to live a life of balance with food and exercise rather than constantly battling and obsessing.
I now call myself a former “Skinny Girl” who has found the way to live a “Healthy” happy life and I’ve never felt more confident. I practice every form of exercise in moderation, 20-30 minutes a day at the most, changing it up often and have even introduced yoga into my life. The practice has truly taught me how much of a role ours minds play in how we feel about ourselves each day.
After countless years of being asked advice about exercise, food and how to stay healthy physically and mentally, I decided to put it all in one place and created Skinny Healthy Girl. As a formally skinny girl who’s now healthy, I wanted to offer a safe zone where anyone can come and get real life, down to earth information on how to live a Skinny Healthy Lifestyle.
Health & wellness are my passions and I have been moving my body for over 26 years and pairing those exercise techniques with delicious flavorful healthy foods. I LOVE food (who doesn’t?), I love to eat and I LOVE to cook. So in addition to sharing all of my workout methods, I’ll also be posting all of the foods that I eat, recipes I’ve created and breaking food news so that you’ll always be up to date.
I am passionate in my belief that women can conquer all, but a strong woman in mind and body can take over the world. Believing in yourself is the first step to success in anything that you do.
