About Skinny Healthy Girl

All through college and into my young adult years I struggled with body image as many women do.  I saw every single flaw (or what I believed to be flaws) on my body and wanted to fix them at whatever cost.  I would either exercise too much or not eat enough as I attempted to change what I believed to be was wrong with my body.  At one point I was 113 pounds at 5 foot 8 inches tall with no muscle tone or shape, I truly was just a skinny girl.  After my boyfriend had a serious conversation with me about how I looked, he opened my eyes to what others actually saw that I couldn’t see.  I made the decision that day to live a life of balance with food and exercise.  I am a former “Skinny Girl” but now I am living a “Healthy” life while still striving to look my absolute best and have fun at the same time.  I do everything from running, kickboxing and my favorite, yoga.

After countless years of being asked advice about exercise and food, I decided to put it all in one place and create Skinny Healthy Girl where anyone can go and get the real life, down to earth details on how to live a Skinny Healthy Lifestyle.  Health & wellness are my passions and I have been moving my body for over 25 years and pairing those Skinny Healthy Exercise techniques with delicious flavorful foods.  I LOVE food (who doesn’t?), I love to eat and I LOVE to cook.  So along with sharing all of my workout methods, I also have tons of Skinny Healthy Recipes for you.

I am a healthy girl (woman) who still happens to be considered skinny” by many.  But in actuality I am in the best shape of my life because I have finally learned how to properly balance food and exercise like I talked about here.  With nearly 60% of the population being considered obese, having a flat belly and a shapely body stands out as different when actually it’s quite normal.  Being in shape and comfortable with your body is not as hard as you might think.  The hardest part is making the commitment to change (that I talked about here) and then no matter what curve ball might be thrown at you, not letting anything get in the way of staying consistent for life.  That’s why we call it a Skinny Healthy Girl Lifestyle.

I am passionate in my belief that women can conquer all, but a strong woman in mind and body can take over the world.  Believing in yourself is the first step to success in anything that you do. Mental strength is just as important as physical strength and the two are essential characteristics in finding a Whole Mind and Body balance that can make your life so much more fulfilling.  There is a proven connection between exercise and happiness because of the stimulation and production of endorphins, the chemical substances that make you feel happy and exhilarated.  Once you have committed to weekly exercise and experience the happiness, there’s no turning back, it’s life changing because you will truly become and feel your best.

Women never want to talk about what they weigh because they are usually embarrassed by the number.  Personally, I don’t weight myself because I don’t see the point in monitoring the weight of my body when a mirror speaks a thousand words.  If I like what I see, I don’t change anything about my food or exercise.  If I don’t like what I see, I will increase the intensity of my workouts for a few days, it’s just comes down to common sense like anything else in life.  That’s the balance part of the Skinny Healthy Girl Lifestyle, it’s really that simple.  When you try on a pair of jeans, you don’t look at them in a scale do you?  You look at them in a mirror, right? You want to see how they look on your body and if they look great, what does a number really matter?  So throw away your scale!

Most women I know talk constantly about how they need to lose weight.  They are so focused on a number that they get overwhelmed and after a short period of time when they don’t make their goal weight they give up.  Women tend to go on the forbidden “diet” for a few months and then dive right back into their old routines while feeling disappointed in themselves.  You have heard it a million times, diets don’t work, change works, passion works, lifestyle works.  It’s not about getting skinny, it’s about believing in yourself, balancing your life and becoming your absolute best.  I am an incurable optimist believing that you can do anything that you set your mind to, but I am also a Skinny Healthy Girl and I am ready to share my mantra with you.
