My Review of Skinnygirl Margarita

I finally have tried the Skinnygirl Margarita and I am ready to give my honest opinion about this 100 calorie drink that has swept the nation. If you haven’t heard of it or the creator Bethenny Frankel for that matter, you will want to read this review so you are well-informed for your next visit to the liquor store or before your next party with your friends.

Bethenny Frankel has become a household name because of her reality show popularity that made her famous. She is a straight-forward, down to earth, truth to your face woman who put herself out there and landed a spot on the reality show, Real Housewives of New York City. That in itself was a success because it’s tough to stand out and get on a television show nowadays. The network executives aren’t looking for the quiet girl in the corner, they want substance to create interest for the viewer and Bethenny did and continues to do that for sure.

Bethenny is a natural food chef, a yoga enthousiast and was on a mission to be successful.  She created Skinnygirl for people who like margaritas, but without all the calories and it was brilliant. Personally, I was buying the low carb margarita mix at the store and was making my own lower calorie drinks at home, but to have it ready to pour in a bottle is really smart.  Let’s face it, we are all looking for ways to cut calories and balance out our lives so this is a perfect fit.  Plus, Bethenny couldn’t have asked for a better way to create brand awareness than through a popular television series and it worked.

Depending on where you buy Skinnygirl Margarita will dictate how much a bottle costs. In Connecticut and New York City it is sold in most stores for $12.99, but when I was in New Orleans recently, I got a bottle for $10.99 which I was thrilled about. The bottle itself is beautiful, I could just stare at it all day.  It is an easy open twist top that seems like it is just begging to be opened, even when warm because the glass has that frosted look to it. I made sure it was chilled for a few days and just poured it into a glass over ice.

The first sip was good, very refreshing and almost had a little bit of a salt taste to it which I liked because I usually drink my margaritas with salt, seemed like the perfect blend.  I did have a little headache the next day which was a little reminder that hydration with water is essential when drinking anything, but especially margaritas.

In a nutshell, I think Skinnygirl Margarita is good.  It’s a little pricey for the amount that you get, but it is a sophisticated way to drink a low-calorie margarita. So if you want to impress your friends at your next party, bring a bottle or two and share your knowledge of how this specialty drink came about.  Cheers!
