7 unhealthy foods that you should NEVER eat

Cancer is a scary word and such a big part of our everyday because all of us have been affected by it in some way.  With that being said, there is always another new cancer warning being reported, whether it be our cell phones, alcohol or the sun causing it.

But did you know that now there is scientific evidence that links certain foods to cancer?  This is an article that everyone should take the time to read and educate themselves on because you might be eating, or drinking, these foods everyday.

Here are the top 7 cancer-causing unhealthy foods that you should never eat again.

1. Processed meats such as ham, turkey, bacon and hot dogs all contain preservatives made of chemicals so that they look fresh and appetizing, but have been linked to increasing the risk of colon, pancreatic and other forms of cancer.  Almost everybody I know eats a sandwich with some sort of processed meat on it each day for lunch, hoping they rethink that.  See the research report here.

2. Microwave popcorn bags are lined with chemicals that are not only linked to testicular, liver and pancreatic cancer, but also infertility.  The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has reported that the perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) in microwave popcorn bag linings are “likely” carcinogenic, see the research report here.

3. Farmed salmon might seem like a good idea because everybody says that you should eat more salmon and fish as a whole, right?  Yes, you should be eating salmon, but not farmed because of the way the fish is treated with pesticides and antibiotics while growing.  It might make the fish look more attractive and low cost when purchasing it, but it is considered to be another high-risk cancer food according to Dr. David Carpenter, the director of the Institute for Health and the Environment at the University of Albany.

4. GMO’s is the latest food warning in the news.  If you haven’t heard of them, GMO’s are genetically modified organisms that are showing up everywhere from corn on the cob to canola oil.  There’s a warning that the chemicals used to grow them have been proven to cause rapid tumor growth and should be avoided.  Be sure to look for certified non-GMO labels and try to buy locally so you are sure that the food you are eating is natural not made in a lab.  See the research here, it will change open your eyes like never before!

5. Soda and diet soda are both linked to cause cancer because of the chemicals and colorings.  The diet soda choice may seem like the healthier version but it’s actually worse than conventional because of the aspartame (an artificial sweetener) being linked to not only cancer but also birth defects.  On a personal note, I used to drink Diet Sprite and absolutely loved it.  I thought, wow, I can have a delicious drink without the calories!  One night, while I was having one, my husband read the label and did some research online.  Well, needless to say, that was the last night I drank Diet Sprite.  See the research report here.

6. Refined white flour is a big no, no for so many reasons that I’ve talked about before, but now it is linked to an increase in breast cancer.  This carbohydrate that is found in processed foods, breads and thousands of other items at the grocery store rapidly raises blood sugar levels and feeds cancer cell growth.  See the research report here.  Stick with whole grains always, no white flour ever again!

7. Apples, grapes and other fruits treated with pesticides can increase your cancer risk.  It’s common sense actually, would you go out into your garage and eat pesticides and chemicals out of a bag?  So why would you eat them as they sit directly on or inside the food you are eating?  Organic is the way to go with certain produce items and these in particular.  Learn about all of the fruits and vegetables with pesticide residue here.

So what SHOULD you eat?  I am asked this question often and I say the same thing every time, eat real, whole foods that you know where they came from, how they were raised and what they were fed.
