Feeling depressed? Eat this.

There are so many causes of depression, but before seeking medication, think about what you are already putting into your body and the chemicals you might be eating that could be affecting your mind. If you’re drinking alcohol to self-medicate and pairing that with poor choices such as salty, fatty foods, consider making some changes. One of the best depression-fighting foods you can eat is an avocado, here’s why.

This super healthy green fruit contains high levels of tryptophan, vitamin b6, folate and omega-3; which stimulate the production of a serotonin that has been shown to run very low in depressed people. Eating this healthy fat has a direct affect on your brain and will naturally improve your mood when eaten often.

Personally, I eat at least one half of an avocado per day. I’ll either have it on a salad with chickpeas as a protein to keep me feeling full or top it on a piece of healthy, nutty whole grain toast with a little sea salt and a slice of tomato to start my day. Not only is this food absolutely delicious and uplifting, it’s so incredibly healthy, and for some the avocado is considered to be the best food in the world.
