Four essential intentions to achieve love, happiness and freedom

Wonderful things don’t just happen in your life, they are meant to happen and you play the center role in creating those experiences. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t want more love, happiness and freedom in their lives, but it takes four essential intentions to fully achieve them. If you haven’t read Don Miguel Ruiz’s book, The Four Agreements, do yourself a favor and pick it up today. It’s a short, easy read for under $8 bucks that will change your life. But in the meantime, here is what I learned from him.

Be impeccable with your word.

This means do NOT say anything that you don’t mean, EVER. Being careful with expressing yourself and only saying exactly what you mean will create trust and others will know that they can count on you. Your words have power, only speak the truth, because without it there is no relationship, even with yourself. At the end of the day, be proud of what you said to others.

Don’t take anything personally.

When you take things personally, you tend to make everything about yourself; which is a form of selfishness. Be aware that everyone is their own person, they make their own decisions and nothing that they do is because of you, but instead is a projection of their own reality. Practice being immune to the opinions and actions of others; you will save yourself a lot of suffering.

Don’t make assumptions.

Never assume anything, instead just ask questions. It’s that simple. I’ve never understood why people in my life are afraid to talk about things. I guess it’s much easier to assume than speak up. But look at it this way, if you want real, deep relationships, have the courage to express yourself and be clear of exactly what you might want or need. Doing this will not only help you to avoid misunderstandings, sadness and drama, but will also help to transform your life.

Always do your best.

No matter what it might be, give it your best effort. When you give yourself 100%, or as close to that as possible, you will have no regrets and will avoid doubt and self-judgement. Your best will be different at the end of the day versus the beginning when you are tired versus well rested, but try your hardest anyway.

Remind yourself of these Four Agreements often and experience healthy transformation within your life going forward and forever. Wishing you love, happiness and freedom!
