Give up these 5 things and be happier right now

Want to be happier right now? Want to feel more fulfilled each day? You have the power to change your mindset and start to live a healthier life. We are all conditioned in one way or another to think or even react in a certain way based on routine or things that we’ve learned throughout out our lives, but you’re never too old to reprogram your mind and start feeling better today.

Give up living in the past

The past is what makes us who we are today, but we don’t have to continue to live in it or hold onto the negatives that we have already experienced. Instead, look at the past as a classroom, where you learned what not to do, or what you should be doing more of and live in today. The past can make us stronger and help us better navigate people, places and things as we move through each day. Be present, embrace what you have and be grateful; you’ll be happier right now.

Give up negative self-talk

Just because you think a thought doesn’t mean it’s true…remember that! Our minds can be calculating and play tricks on us, but the good news is, we have 100% control and can stop it on impact. Remind yourself of that each time you start to think negative thoughts about your life, or how you look, and turn them around immediately by thinking of at least one positive thing. With practice, you’ll become very good at this and will transform your confidence as you give up negative talk completely and realize your greatness.

Give up overthinking

Did you know that most of the things we worry about never happen? What a waste of time! But at some point everybody has a tendency to think about something, then obsessively let that thought get out of control with more useless thoughts; none of which really matter. Instead, if you think of something that is important to you, write it down and walk away. When you give yourself a moment to breathe and digest the thought you’ll probably just forget about it. If you don’t, call a friend you can trust and work through it with an outside perspective.

Give up trying to please everyone

This is a biggy! Always concerning yourself with others happiness over your own can be exhausting and a lot of times unappreciated. Give yourself at least one day per week where you do something, or a few things, just for yourself. In addition, start practicing saying no, versus yes to everything. The more that you do this the better you will become and those who surround you will appreciate you more.

Give up fearing change

Fearing change is one of the most challenging hurdles I continue to tackle personally. Since I was a kid, I just always thought everything was going to stay the same from my friendships, to where I live, what I like and what I do. But that’s not the case at all and at times, this can be a tough pill to swallow. So now, I accept what I cannot change and tackle what’s in front of me each day instead of trying to plan my life too far in advance. I’ve learned that change is good, and if it scares you it’s probably something that you should do.
